A Logic for Reasoning about Actions and Explicit Observations

چکیده
We propose a formalism for reasoning about actions based on multi-modal logic which allows for expressing observations as first-class objects. We introduce a new modal operator, namely [o | α], which allows us to capture the notion of perceiving an observation given that an action has taken place. Formulae of the type [o | α]φ mean ‘after perceiving observation o, given α was performed, necessarily φ’. In this paper, we focus on the challenges concerning sensing with explicit observations, and acting with nondeterministic effects. We present the syntax and semantics, and a correct and decidable tableau calculus for the logic.

A Specification Logic for Reasoning about Actions and Explicit Observations
We propose a logic that can express explicit observation constants, as a bridge towards reasoning about action using partially observable Markov decision processes (POMDPs). We introduce a new modal operator [o | α]—informally, [o | α]φ means ‘after perceiving observation o, given α was performed, necessarily φ’. In this paper, we focus on the challenges concerning sensing with explicit observa...
متن کاملMarek A . Bednarczyk Explicit Substitution into Action A non - monotone logic for reasoning about actions and change Nr 942 Warszawa , February 2002
A logic LP σ for reasoning about change is presented. The logic, an extension of the logic of predicates with equalitu, is based on the idea that explicit substitutions can be seen as atomic formulae describing basic change of the state of a system. The logic is substructural: non-monotone and non-commutative. Its Platonic, i.e., predicate part is governed by the additive connectives, while the...
متن کاملFormalizing Counterfactual and Nondeterministic Actions in First Order Logic
This short paper outlines some aspects of a method of axiomatizing actions and their effects in standard first-order logic. The method is closely related to other methods using nonmonotonic logics, but the use of first-order logic permits remarkable simplicity. In particular, there is a single, explicit, fixed, and intuitively meaningful frame axiom. Moreover, complex types of inference are pos...
متن کاملReasoning about Action in First - Order Logic
The main contribution of this paper is a method of axiomatizing actions and their eeects in standard rst-order logic in a way that solves the frame problem. It has long been thought that the frame problem makes monotonic logics inadequate for reasoning about action; this paper shows how to achieve the beneets of a nonmonotonic logic using a monotonic logic. The use of rst-order logic permits co...
متن کاملLogics for Cooperation , Actions and Preferences
In this thesis, a logic for reasoning about cooperative ability, actions and preferences is developed. It is an extention of a cooperation logic with actions, developed by Sauro et al., which is a modular modal logic consisting of an environment module for reasoning about actions and their effects and an agents module for reasoning about the cooperative ability of agents to perform actions. In ...
